How Permaculture Makes An Orchard Self-Sufficient?

Apparently, quite a lot. Take a few minutes and watch this inspiring video from a farmer in Quebec:


He’s confusing pests, feeding the soil and getting good harvests without chemical fertilizer or insecticides.

Generally, the more your gardening looks like nature, the better you’ll do. People are finding out again and again that the whole monoculture thing is a lot tougher to maintain than a more gentle permaculture approach.

And really – would you rather eat apples that had been sprayed multiple times with who-know-what… or apples that had been picked from unsprayed trees?
