Well sorta….more of a slow down
The failure means the gears of the federal government will start to slow down on today, though hundreds of thousands of federal workers will remain on the job. Though it’s been a long time since the last one, this marks the 18th shutdown since 1977.
Republicans were also seeking a motion to start formal negotiations, called a conference committee, with the Senate on the stopgap spending measure — an unusual request for a six-week spending bill that funds the government at current levels, but it provides Republicans a vehicle to keep the debate going. It was quickly rejected by Senate Democrats.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev, made it clear late Monday he did not intend to go to conference under the present circumstances.
Now there are those that are predicting gloom and doom for the US economy, just as they did when the mandatory spending cuts took effect. I think we can all look back on that and see it wasn’t nearly as bad as predicted and may have actually helped our economy.
What Does This Mean to Us Preppers
For me it really does not mean a lot…I’ll have pretty much the same type of day I had yesterday. Now, if 6 months from now we are still fighting this battle I might be a little more concerned. As a Prepper I should already be prepared for whatever event takes place, if I’m not maybe I should consider getting my act together before the SHTF.
My personal opinion is that it’s about time we the people start forcing our government to do our will and not what they think best for me. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the catalyst that gets us moving down the right path. A slowdown in government spending, no matter how painful it might be, may just be what the doctor ordered.
So boys and girls keep your family and guns close, stay prepared for whatever comes next.
