Use of the word ‘scavenging’ is often followed by a gut reaction of disgust. This feeling has been conditioned into us by societal changes that have, in the past, allowed us to simply purchase what we want new, rather than repairing and reusing tool, components, etc. But with the times quickly changing, and with a Zombie attack, outbreak, or other major disaster possibly on its way to your hometown right now; it’s time to change that mindset.
The old adage, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” means exactly that. What one person finds to be useless, another may find to be useful. And when the world begins to fall apart, scavenging will be among the best skills you can have.
Among the most important supplies you may be able to scavenge will be food, water, and security, and if you look in the right places, all three of these necessities will be readily available to you, along with countless other supplies and materials.
Take a look at our Scavenging (or) One Man’s Trash article for details on what to look for, where to go, and how to do it safely.
